Maths is everywhere, at work, and in our everyday lives.
Every child who can read and write, can be good at Maths!!

About My Tutoring

I've been tutoring in Maths and Computer Science for 10+ years and nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing a student gain confidence, progress and reach their potential.
I truly believe that everyone can be good at Maths - and we need to be in today's world.
And its all about the teaching.
From experience in industry I've noticed something is not going quite right with our Maths education.
Very capable people are lacking some of the most basic Maths skills. Children are developing Maths Anxiety - I feel this simply shouldn't happen.
A child's fear of Maths begins when they get lost with it.
I want to help my students overcome any Maths Anxiety and grow to enjoy Maths and be confident in it.
Targeted tutoring can make this happen.
Teaching first with concrete, real-life examples. Teaching with Understanding. I've found that many younger children respond well to using practical equipment, engaging multiple senses. They enjoy the touch of counters and the sight of the beautifully coloured wooden cuisennaire rods. Diagrams, models and visuals are critical learning aids for students of all ages

Private tuition can bring understanding of Maths, build confidence and remove anxieties. I make students feel safe, then find gaps in their understanding, and strengthen those foundations. The confidence returns. The resistance to homework disappears (mostly)! And often the class participation increases.

About Me

I live in the beautiful city of Chester in the UK, and my passions lie in Maths, Data and Education. I went to Sheffield University to gain a BSc in Maths and Statistics, and more recently enjoyed studying for an MSc in Data Science (the science behind artificial intelligence) at City University London, where I qualified with the highest grade, a Distinction.
I've been fortunate enough to experience a varied career firstly as a Statistician for the Office for National Statistics, followed by Data-related roles in IT for corporations like United Biscuits, Information Resources and Shell.
From experience in industry, I've noticed something is not going quite right with our Maths education, where highly capable professionals are struggling with basic Maths. This is why my focus is purely on helping as many students as I can with Maths and Computer Science.
